We are sad to report that 16 Israelis have now died from the deadly coronavirus. The latest victim, who passed away today, was the youngest. There are now 4347 confirmed cases in Israel.
Prime Minister Netanyahu himself has gone into self-quarantine, after his aide, with whom he spent time with last week, was diagnosed with corona.
PM Netanyahu had warned that within a month one million Israelis could be infected and 10,000 could die.
Tough restrictions had gone into effect last week. Even tougher rules are now being considered by Israel’s cabinet. Israelis are prohibited from going more than 100 meters from their homes. Armed IDF soldiers are assisting policeman in patrolling the streets to ensure compliance.
Israelis abroad were ordered to return home before the borders are completely closed, even to citizens. El Al suspended all passenger flights.
While all Israelis are affected, the poor and elderly, Holocaust survivors, victims of terror and those with serious illnesses face the highest risk.
The lives of Israeli soldiers, security officers and medical care providers are in danger. Thousands of policemen and health workers are in home isolation.
The citizens of Israel are confronting an emergency of epic proportions. coronavirus poses a far greater threat to Israel than acts of terror.
In certain areas, food and medical supplies are scarce. Health care workers are getting infected. Businesses are shut down. Financial difficulties are insurmountable. Israelis are in a state of panic.
