In September 2015, I had a massive heart attack in the middle of the night that nearly ended my life. One of my main arteries was 95% blocked and my heart was starving of oxygen as a result. I would have been dead for sure if it was more serious than that. Thankfully the paramedics came fairly quickly and gave me medications to stop the heart attack from continuing. The longer it carries on, the more damage or death it can cause to the heart muscles which leads to irreversible heart failure.
About one in three people die as a result of a heart attack. I literally “walked through the valley of the shadow of death” as the psalmist described. My cardiologist told me that I was extremely lucky to be alive, which I am really grateful to God.

My Lack Of faith
Before this incident, I was a lukewarm Sunday Christian. I followed my wife and attended the Catholic Church for more than 10 years. For a long period of time I didn’t read the Bible and only prayed when I was in need.

I thought I was a pretty decent person and didn’t do anything really bad, but I was very selfrighteous and living a self-centered life with no regards to God’s will, yielding to the desires and standards of this world. In essence, I was not a born again Christian and I was totally lost, even though I was brought up in a Christian family and attended church throughout my life.

God’s Work In My Life
Looking back, I can definitely see the loving hands of God guiding me back to Him like the parable of the lost sheep. It is so humbling to know that the Almighty God deeply loves and cares for an unworthy sinner like me, reaching out to me with His everlasting love.

Just a few months before this ordeal, my parents encouraged me to attend Sunday Services at Chinese Methodist Church. I did and I never looked back. God began to speak to me through the sermons of different pastors, and brother and sisters
in Christ. One day I decided to go to a Christian Book store, bought a Study Bible and started reading it.

Then the Holy Spirit spoke to me directly through the Bible. Verses from different parts of the Bible seemed to jump up and grab my attention, and they became something tangible and alive in me.

Eventually, the “truth” was revealed to me. And the truth has set me free. I was blind, but now I can see. Praise the Lord!

I’ve experienced a life changing encounter with the Almighty God beyond words can express. The living, breathing Word of God is indeed sweeter than honey, as the psalmist described,“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm119:103).

My Biggest blessing
I thank God every day for the precious gift of life. Nevertheless, my biggest blessing is not the fact the I am still alive today, but the spiritual re-generation by the loving grace of God and the working of the Holy Spirit in me, “Because His loving kindness is better than life” (Psalm 63:3).

I now have a much deeper understanding of who the Almighty God really is. This is entirely by the grace of God, so I have nothing to boast except a deep sense of gratitude. As Apostle Paul stated in Philippians 1:6, “he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” He also said, “I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (Philippians 3:8). This is something I am striving for by the power of the Holy Spirit.

A Second Chance
The heart attack was a wake up call from God. He gave me a stern warning and disciplined me which I really needed, out of abundance of His wonderful love. This is indeed a blessing in disguise. In fact, this is the best thing that has happened to me in my entire life.
God has given me a second chance to live a life that glorifies His name, follow the footstep of Jesus Christ, and most importantly to prepare myself to see Him face to face sooner or latter so I won’t hang my head in shame.
After 49 years of being a so called Christian, I am finally born again and assured of my salvation in Jesus Christ. God has given me a second chance of salvation – What a blessing and privilege!

My failure And God’s Love
Even though I know that I’ve been given a second chance, and I also have the desire to live a life that pleases God, I often fail miserably along this journey. I can never do it on my own; it is only by the grace of Jesus Christ and the guidance of the Holy Spirit that I can persevere hopefully till the finishing line.
Every time I fail, He picks me up, forgives and embraces me with His loving kindness, and assures me of His everlasting love through the cross. As prophet Isaiah mentioned, “He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart” (Isaiah 40:11). In Psalm 147:3, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their
wounds.”
Often times I feel like one of the poor, wounded lambs as described by Prophet Isaiah. Even though I am not worthy, He dresses my wound and carries me close to His heart which really shows how much He loves me. It is such a tremendous blessing to have Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour, beyond what words can express. Without Him I am nothing, and I’ll be totally lost in the world.

Lessons Learned (1) – God Centered Living
Through reading the Bible, the Holy Spirit has taught me 2 very important principles that I can apply to various aspects of my life. Firstly, as Christians our lives should be focused on God and not ourselves. Jesus said, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).

So often we tend to focus so much on ourselves and our families, and we become the “Lord” of our lives and not God. Even though we attend church every Sunday, we are the one taking control in pursue of our worldly ambitions and desires. God then becomes a means to meet the desire of our hearts with all our material needs and wants. Jesus Christ set a perfect example for us when He was facing the agony of the cross and he prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42).

Lessons Learned (2) – Focus On The Eternal
The second very important principle that I have learnt is that our Christian lives should be focused on the eternal kingdom with God, instead of this temporary world that we live in. We often live our lives contrary to what God says in the Bible.
In 2 Corinthians 4: 16-18, Paul stated, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but
what is unseen is eternal.”
Again in Colossians 3: 1-2, he said, “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Remember, it is what we cannot see which is eternal and not the other way round. As Christians, we should live our lives for the glory of God with eternity as our focus.

Shocking Realisation
During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13-14).
He carried on and said, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never
knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ (Matthew 7:21-23).

Notice Jesus is speaking to his followers and disciples, not unbelievers. Only believers listen to sermons, and call Jesus ‘Lord, Lord’. Basically He is saying that many professing Christians are travelling through the wide gate and along the broad road that leads to destruction, which is hell. I was one of them. If I did die from the heart attack, most probably I would have ended up in hell.

This is indeed a shocking realization to me. Among the professing Christians, only “a few” will find the small gate and walk on the narrow road that leads to eternal life according to Jesus Christ. Are you one of the few? I know this is hard to hear, but it is the truth. I sincerely hope that we can walk together, support each other and make it to the very end. We can’t do it on our own; it is only by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Why Are So Many Professing Christians Totally Lost?
You may be wondering; how is it possible that there are so many professing Christians in the church who are totally lost, self-deceived, and unsaved as Jesus warned without knowing it? There is no question about their sincerity. They can be sincere, but sincerely wrong.  This is the most painful revelation for me, which often fills my heart with deep sorrow.

The main reason is because they don’t study the Word of God diligently. As a result, their knowledge of God is limited and they worship a God that is created in their own image, just like I was. This is idolatry! Proverbs 9:10, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

The second reason is because there are so many false teachers preaching false gospels and false Christs, mixing truth with errors. Sadly, so many people in the church are following them down the path of destruction. False teachers are instruments used by Satan to lead people away from the one true God – the only way to salvation. Please be very careful, my
dear friend.

Listen to the warning from Apostle Paul, “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!” (Galatians 1: 8-9).

Notice Paul is saying the same thing “twice” to emphasize the seriousness of this issue and warn people of the danger of false gospels preached by false teachers. Please don’t take it lightly.

Paul issued another stern warning to the Church of Corinth on this serious matter, “But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough” (2 Corinthians 11: 3-4).

Jesus Christ himself warned us about false prophets/teachers, “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them” (Matthew 7: 15).

As Christians, it is our duty to expose false teachers and bring those who have gone astray back to Jesus Christ. If you truly love somebody, don’t let them fall prey to false teachers. “My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way
will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins” (James 5: 19-20).

I use the 2 spiritual principles that I’ve learned to discern true teacher/gospel from false teacher/gospel. If it is man-centered and focused on this life on earth, then this is a false teacher/gospel. The true gospel is Christ centered with an eternal perspective.

Apostasies In The Church
Speaking about the end times, the time that we currently live in, Jesus warned, “At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved” (Matthew
24: 10-13).

Jesus Christ had already told us 2,000 years ago that “At that time many will turn away from the faith” and “the love of most will grow cold”. This is happening right now throughout the world across all churches. I can see massive apostasies (departure from the only true Faith) both in Protestant and Catholic Churches. I’ve attended and fully involved in both so I know more than most people.

Don’t get me wrong, I have many loved ones and great friends both in Protestant and Catholic Churches who are wonderful and loving people. I am talking about the problem with “teachings” in some churches. Most people are misled without knowing it.

Nevertheless, as Christians we are personally responsible for who we choose to follow. We must follow Jesus Christ alone, period! To find out more about apostasies in Protestant Churches, I strongly encourage you to watch the following videos. You will find out who the false teachers are, and how Satan is using them to deceive countless people in the church.

Apostasies

I’ve tried to share with a few people in various churches about the only truth in the Bible and expose the errors. So far no one is willing to accept it; instead I was scolded, insulted and ridiculed by some. This is the sad reality, but it confirms the truth of what Jesus Christ said – relatively few professing Christians will find the small gate and walk on the narrow
road that leads to eternal life.

Some people don’t like me because I am telling them things they don’t like to hear. But it doesn’t matter what other people think of me, as long as I am telling them about the biblical truth out of love. It only matters what God thinks of me on the day of judgement. I truly hope that I’ll be considered worthy for Him when the day comes.

In Galatians 1:10, “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Paul also said, “Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?” (Galatians 4:16).

It is never my intention to offend anyone. What have I got to gain by offending people and get scolded, insulted and ridiculed, hurting precious friendships and relationships along the way? The only reason is because I care about the destiny of their souls. I am merely a beggar showing other beggars where to find bread.

I totally understand that truth by nature can offend most people, especially when errors need to be exposed in order for the truth to be revealed. The perfect, sinless Jesus Christ preached the truth and was crucified. Yes, truth hurts, but the good news is “the truth will set you free” (John 8:32).

Please embrace the truth which is Jesus Christ who has the key to everlasting life. If you reject the truth, you reject Jesus Christ himself because He said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

On the flip side, errors are lies from Satan to lead people away from salvation through Jesus Christ. This is life-and-death spiritual warfare. That’s why false teachings in apostate churches are so dangerous, and Satan’s lies need to be exposed in order for the light of Jesus Christ to shine through.

Listen to how Jesus described Satan; “He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44).

Looking ahead
2015 was truly an unforgettable and bittersweet year for me. Physically, it was not easy.

As a matter of fact, I am now longing for the heavenly home even more so than before; knowing that I am simply a stranger and foreigner in this world (Hebrews 11:13). I am always prepared and ready to return home in God’s perfect timing, to begin my “real” life. Life is very short on this earth for every single one of us. As Moses wrote in Psalm 90:12, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

When the time comes, I know that Jesus Christ will be there to welcome me with open arms. “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (Revelation 21: 4). What a blessing we have as God’s children!

On that day, our only 14-year-old autistic son who can’t talk and has the mental development of a 1-year-old will be made whole. He will understand how much I have loved him. Perhaps he will call me “daddy”, that will be awesome! January 2015, I had a fall from the ladder and severely injured my left shoulder which needed surgery and months of rehabilitation. I needed another surgery to improve it, but it will never be the same as before.

In September 2015, I had the major heart attack. Nevertheless, these physical sufferings pale into insignificance compared to the surpassing joy of knowing my Lord and Saviour Jesus Chri

Final Remarks
This is a testimony written not with my pen, but my life. After a near-death experience, I no longer have the luxury of gambling with the destiny of my soul, nor am I willing to do so. I am sharing this with you because I care about you. I earnestly pray that you won’t make the same near fatal mistake that I made, i.e. a false sense of security about personal
salvation in Christ.

What I have written is not important, but the Bible verses that I have quoted are extremely important. Don’t take my word for it. I strongly encourage you to check out the verses in your Bible, pray about it and find out more.

Dear friend, let us press on “to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people” (Jude 1:3). “And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12: 1-2).

Please don’t be content just to be a Sunday Christian like I was, because Jesus said “Since you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I am going to spit you out of my mouth” (Revelation 3:16). This is a serious warning for all of us, especially when we are now living in the end times.

Jesus Christ will be coming back again sooner or later, so let us get ready and look forward to the “inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for。you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1: 4-5).

For those of you who have prayed for me and helped me in any way, shape or form along this amazing spiritual journey, I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart. May the love, peace and joy of the Lord be with you always.

Please continue to pray for me and each other, since we are one in Christ. May God equip and protect you in your dedication to do His works. May the name of our Lord be glorified. “Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom; you are
exalted as head over all” (1 Chronicles 29:11).

Glory Be To God, Amen.
