The book of Judges – a vivid depiction of the cyclical patterns of societal rise and decline.
In times when righteous judges led, the people thrived. Even in the midst of Samson’s personal struggles, his courage and strength left the idolatrous Philistines in awe.
However, in periods devoid of leadership, where no judge emerged to guide and teach, the people, craving direction, turned to their own devices. This led to idol worship and eventual ruin. As Proverbs wisely notes, people perish because of a lack of knowledge. When Christians fail to address the pressing cultural issues of our time, we inadvertently create space for false teachings to take root.
One such pressing issue is the distortion of the divine image, as outlined in Genesis 1:27—the sacred reflection of God in both male and female. It is Satan’s goal to pervert this divine truth.
Therefore, we must speak boldly, undeterred by the threats of oppressive laws that threaten to silence us, workplace repercussions that threaten to fire us, or social media censoring that threatens to cancel us. In a culture hungering for leadership, we must rise to the occasion as leaders and teachers of God’s truth.
Together, let us labour for the harvest, reaching out to those who are weary and lost, just as Jesus had compassion on those he likened to sheep without a shepherd.
