The purpose of this call to prayer is for the Renewal and Transformation of Australia as a nation with Jesus Christ as Lord. The theme for 2014 is REVIVAL.

The Vision

At the same time we are seeing the Judeo-Christian values which have made Australia a great place to live, being undermined on many different fronts. Today we will be praying for

• ·         the REVIVAL of the Church in Australia,
• ·         a great harvest of souls across our land and overseas and
• a renewal of sexual purity throughout our Australian society.

In 1901, at the time of Federation, 96.1% of Australians claimed to be Christians. In the last census in 2011 only 61.1% of Australians called themselves Christians. The actual figures for those who practise their faith through church attendance is much lower. Church attendance has been falling since Federation with only 8.8% going to church weekly. We need revival and transformation in our personal lives, in our churches and in our society.

Five Point Prayer Plan – REVIVAL

1. Commit to a deepening and overflowing love for God (1 John 4:16).
2. Make a list of friends you will pray for on each of these 40 days, praying they will be revived from death to new life in Jesus Christ.  As God leads, invite them to encounter the life of Jesus at an Easter service.
3. Include these 40 Days of Prayer in your church calendar and mobilise your church to pray and partner with God in His revival of our nation.
4. Live a sexually pure, holy life by grace and the power of a personal relationship with God and pray for a revival of sexual purity in our nation (1 John 3:3, 2 Cor 6:16-7:1).
5. Pray each day for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit and fire to unite us in prayer and partnership with God in His revival and transformation of Australia (Acts 2:17).

Suggested Prayer of Repentance and Revival: to be read out by all gathered

Our Loving Heavenly Father,

This day we cry out to You that You would send revival to our land. We know that for this to happen that we Your people, who are called by Your Name, need to humble ourselves and seek Your face and turn from our wicked ways. This day we come before You to plead Your mercy over our own sins and the sins of our nation. We stand before You to confess the awful affront to You in: 

• the disunity in our churches,
  • our prayerlessness and poor use of time,
  • our carelessness and neglect of the Word of God,
  • our lukewarm deeds and lack of zeal,
  • the love of money and worldly pursuits,
  • the increase of crime in our land,
  • the widespread use and abuse of alcohol and drugs,
  • the lack of moral character in our leaders,
  • moral rottenness in the media,
  • rampant immorality and sexual impurity,
  • the breakdown of marriages and families through domestic violence and divorce,
  • the abuse and sexualisation of children,
  • the shedding of innocent blood in our land through abortion and much more.

Heal our nation! Pour out Your Spirit like a mighty purifying flood. Purify our motives as we pray for revival. Awaken and burden our hearts to pray that Your glory may dwell in our land – the Great Southland of the Holy Spirit. We ask that every believer in Australia will dwell together in unity proclaiming to the world that Jesus Christ is Lord. Reveal Your might, Your power and Your goodness in our day, that the knowledge of the glory of God will cover our towns, our cities, our nation and the whole earth, as the waters cover the sea.
